This year’s Sydney Chamber Music Festival will feature two compositions of mine in two concerts on Sunday 11 September.
Firstly, during the afternoon the Acacia string quartet will play Don’t Leave Me This Way once again. This will be the fifth time they’ve performed it, and I can’t express enough what good and rare fortune it is for a composer to have such conviction and dedication from performers.
Secondly, Verna Lee Brown will play the solo harp pieces from the calendar project Then, gently, the world began anew. In fact, it’s the title work of that Sunday evening concert.
By then, 9 of the projected 12 pieces will have been publicly heard. We haven’t yet decided how many Verna will play. I’ve composed nearly all 12, but I’m engaged in a playful game of reveal to my faithful customers who have bought the wall calendar; I want them to have the first hearing of each month’s music, so I can’t have October-December played at the concert.
In a nice innovation for a classical concert, the performance will include the corresponding photograph by Steve Robb and my six-word story being projected onto the stage. This makes me very happy, as I know the combination of sound, picture and word will increase the depth of trance and enjoyment that the audience will enter into.
Bookings can be made here. I’d love to see you there. The Sunday afternoon concert is free, or by donation as you wish.
